After two editions sold out in the blink of an eye, Velvet Fig returns in an even more refined version. For the first time, the emblematic cuvée of Wemyss Malts boasts an age: 12 years. A deliberate step up in quality for the independent Scottish bottler, who here presents a limited edition highly anticipated by professionals and collectors alike.

Only 380 bottles are destined for the French market, available from January 20th at select wine shops and delicatessens. Priced at a recommended €67, this new version clearly positions itself in the accessible premium single malt segment, with a story of craftsmanship that will appeal to discerning enthusiasts.

At the helm, as always, is Isabella Wemyss, the company's Master Blender, true to her philosophy of sensory blending. For this edition, six first-fill sherry casks (three hogsheads and three butts) filled in 2012 were carefully selected from The Speyside Cooperage, a historic partner of Wemyss Malts.

A notable feature: contrary to the house's usual practice, the final blend benefited from an extended five-month rest in sherry casks. This technical choice was intended to enhance the aromatic coherence and structure of the whisky, while accentuating the rich, indulgent signature that has made Velvet Fig so successful.

In the glass, the promise is clear: a rich and silky profile, dominated by dried fruits, candied figs, and the warm notes typical of fine sherry cask maturation. All this without coloring, with a natural hue, and bottled at 46% to best preserve the aromatic expression.

Founded in 2005, Wemyss Family Spirits continues its artisanal and independent approach with this bottling, now diversified across Wemyss Malts, Kingsbarns Distillery, and Darnley’s Gin. A house that prioritizes the rigorous selection of casks and consistency of style over range effects.

For wine merchants and influencers, Velvet Fig 12 Years Old ticks all the boxes: an already recognized series by enthusiasts, a now declared age, very limited production, and a coherent price positioning. All arguments that should make it one of the most sought-after references at the beginning of the year.
