The Scottish whisky giant is releasing a limited edition inspired by the City of Light. Between croissants, cognac, and Montmartre, here's what you need to know about the $4,750 bottle.

Let's face it: when The Macallan decides to pay tribute to a city, it's rarely a modest affair. After London, New York, Mexico, and Hong Kong, it's Paris's turn to be "distilled," and the result is a single malt costing almost $5,000 a bottle.

From Speyside to Montmartre via Anne-Sophie Pic

Distil Your World Paris is the fifth installment in the Scottish distillery's famous globe-trotting series. The concept? Master Whisky Maker Kirsteen Campbell immerses herself in a city, absorbs its soul, aromas, and emotions, and translates them into whisky. And clearly, Paris inspired her.

"This edition is my own interpretation of the journey," she confides. "I brought a piece of Paris back with me."

To craft this nectar, she partnered with the Roca brothers, Joan, Josep, and Jordi, owners of El Celler de Can Roca, twice voted the best restaurant in the world. It's safe to say that gastronomy is well understood within this team.

And when we talk about French gastronomy, it's impossible not to mention Anne-Sophie Pic, the great triple-Michelin-starred chef who welcomed the team during their Parisian immersion. Joan Roca himself did not spare his praise: "This trip will remain etched in our memories, particularly thanks to the incredible hospitality of Anne-Sophie Pic." Having one of France's greatest chefs as an inspirational guide in the capital is not something that can be faked, and it certainly shows in the glass.

The Grand Premiere: Cognac Barrels

This is where it gets really interesting for enthusiasts. For the very first time in The Macallan's history, cognac barrels have been used in whisky maturation, in addition to the traditional sherry and bourbon barrels. Quite a defiant move for the parent company, known for its almost religious adherence to sherry barrels.

The result? A single malt at 47.2% whose tasting notes resemble the menu of a luxury patisserie:

  • On the nose: freshly baked almond croissants, rose petals, syruped nectarines, sandalwood, and vanilla pod
  • On the palate: buttery viennoiseries, brioche, sweet almonds, peach melba, creamy mille-feuille
  • In the finish: sweet spices and warm oak

Frankly, at this point, we don't know if we want to drink the bottle or go straight to the baker.

The Packaging is Also High Art

The Macallan never does things by halves. The natural color of the whisky has been christened "Parisian Sunrise", like the first ray of sunshine over Montmartre. The interior of the box? "Street yellow" color, a tribute to Parisian streetlights. And to top it all off, a gouache illustration of a typically Parisian street, signed by French artist Cassandre Montoriol.

It's beautiful, it's chic, and it makes you cry a little when you see the price.

Who can afford it?

Since February 26, 2026, the bottle has been exclusively available to members of The Macallan Society. However, it has been noticed on The Whisky Shop website.

At 4,750 dollars (4300 Euros) per bottle, it's safe to say this is not a Sunday evening whisky to watch Netflix. But for collectors and fans of premium whisky, it is an object of absolute desire, and undoubtedly one of the most Parisian ever produced hundreds of kilometers from Paris.
