There are collaborations that seem so obvious that you wonder why they didn't exist before. The Moulin Rouge and absinthe, that's exactly it. Two icons of Parisian nightlife, two symbols of the Belle Époque, two similar DNAs: festive, free, a little crazy. And yet, it's only in 2025 that the magic officially happens, with the launch of Absinthe Grande Absente Moulin Rouge.
Toulouse-Lautrec was right
The story between the Moulin Rouge and the green fairy begins long before this partnership. In Montmartre, at the end of the 19th century, absinthe was everywhere: in glasses, on canvases, in sketchbooks. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec himself, an inseparable figure of the cabaret, swore by it. Imagine the scene: the painter seated at the Moulin Rouge, a glass of green liqueur within reach, sketching the dancers in motion. Absinthe as creative fuel, as a social lubricant, as a passport to a certain form of freedom.
It is in this spirit that Distilleries et Domaines de Provence, the house behind Grande Absente, an absolute reference for French absinthe for over a century, has forged this partnership with the Moulin Rouge brand. The result: an exclusive edition that sounds like a no-brainer.

In the glass, what does it look like?
We are still on a Grande Absente at its best. The pale green color with yellow reflections is true to tradition, as is the intense and complex nose. On the palate, the absinthe takes center stage with elegance, even though it's 69% ABV, and hints of mint and star anise are well-balanced.
For tasting, two options: the classic way with 3 to 5 volumes of fresh water (and sugar on the slotted spoon, of course), or in a cocktail with all the creativity that implies. The bottle suggests cucumber, citrus, mint, or rosemary, all avenues that open up beautiful possibilities behind the bar.
The 1L format is calibrated for professionals as well as serious amateurs.
Packaging that tells a story
The bottle is clearly the masterpiece. The illustrated label transports you directly to Montmartre, at night, under a deep starry blue sky, with the red windmill and the Eiffel Tower in the background. A pop and colorful graphic style that breaks away from the usual codes of absinthe, which are often very sober, very "apothecary". Here, it's lively, it's Parisian. The kind of bottle you put on the counter as much to drink it as to show it off.

Availability and price
Grande Absente Moulin Rouge has been available since March 12th, for €69.90 including tax for a one-liter bottle, on the Distilleries et Domaines de Provence online store and at selected wine shops and specialized retailers, both in France and internationally.
For a collaboration celebrating 135 years of Parisian festive history, this is a rather honest price. And frankly, putting a Moulin Rouge absinthe on your bar table has a certain flair.
